Let Samsung Take Those Old Electronics Off Your Hands This Spring

Welcome to spring, the prettiest time of the year! Other than colorful flowers and light rain, with spring also comes not-so-pretty things as well, like spring cleaning. Fear not, because this year Samsung is helping people get used electronics off their hands for free. Even better, proceeds from the recycling program will benefit students in the San Francisco Unified School District.

People can dispose of old electronics safely and responsibly through a series of e-waste recycling drives that are being held at public schools in San Francisco. Samsung is encouraging everyone to recycle their old TVs, monitors, desktop and laptop computers, printers, keyboards, mice, radios, stereos, speakers, DVD and CD players, VCRs, MP3 players, PDAs, and cell phones.

According to the EPA, only 18 percent of TVs, cell phones and computer products that are ready for end-of-life (EOL) management are recycled. The rest are discarded primarily in the nation’s landfills.

The e-recycling program will benefit participating schools in the San Francisco Unified School District and match donated funds to the San Francisco Unified School District’s Free and Reduced Lunch program.

The upcoming Samsung recycling fundraisers will take place on the following dates from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at these schools:

• March 20 – Sunset Elementary School, 1920 41st Ave., San Francisco
• March 27 – Cesar Chavez Elementary School, 825 Shotwell St., San Francisco
